What services do you provide?

The Breast Centre provides specialist assessment, diagnosis and surgical management for a wide range of benign and malignant breast conditions. Our services include breast cancer assessment and treatment, localised breast surgery including Savi-Scout and hookwire-guided procedures, oncoplastic breast surgery, management of benign breast conditions, breast lump assessment, breast pain and nipple concerns, risk assessment and surveillance, breast reconstruction, gender-affirming chest surgery and coordinated surveillance breast imaging and follow-up care.

Where are we located?

The Breast Centre is located in the heart of Bowen Specialist Centre in Crofton Downs, Wellington. We work closely with leading local providers including Bowen Icon Cancer Centre, Bowen Hospital and Pacific Radiology to provide coordinated, patient-centred breast care.

How quickly are urgent GP or specialist referrals seen?

We aim to review and triage urgent GP or specialist referrals within 24–48 hours of receipt. Appointment timeframes may vary depending on clinical urgency, imaging requirements and specialist availability, however our team will endeavour to arrange timely assessment and coordinate investigations where required. If you have concerns regarding the urgency of your referral, please contact our team directly.

Do I need a GP referral?

We accept both GP referrals and self-referrals, however referrals from GPs or specialists are preferred where possible. This helps ensure we receive any relevant clinical history, imaging and previous correspondence prior to your appointment.

How can I make an appointment?

Appointments can be arranged by referral from your GP or specialist, or by contacting our team directly regarding a self-referral. Referrals can be sent electronically to The Breast Centre for triage and booking. Existing patients are also welcome to contact us directly regarding follow-up appointments or ongoing care.

Can surveillance mammograms and specialist appointments be coordinated on the same day?

Yes, we aim to coordinate imaging and specialist appointments on the same day to provide a streamlined and convenient experience for patients.

What is a contrast-enhanced mammogram?

A contrast-enhanced mammogram (CEM) is an advanced breast imaging technique that uses contrast dye to provide more detailed imaging. Your specialist will discuss whether this investigation is appropriate for you.

Please note that contrast-enhanced mammograms are not always funded by insurers for screening or surveillance purposes and may involve an additional out-of-pocket cost.

Do you still have access to Mr Burton King’s records?

No — we do not have direct access to Mr Burton King’s historical patient records. If you are a previous patient of Mr Burton King, we recommend asking your GP to include any previous correspondence, reports or imaging with your referral where possible to assist with continuity of care.
